City Power technician rushed to hospital after explosion at Crown substation

The incident led to an outage from Crown substation affecting four distributors feeding surrounding areas.

City Power technician has been taken to hospital after he was injured in an explosion at our Crown substation earlier today.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the team was working at the substation when they experienced a flashover from the busbar area. 

“The technician was rushed to the hospital where he is receiving treatment, he said.

The incident led to an outage from Crown substation affecting four distributors feeding the following areas:

  • Ormonde View
  • Booysens Reserve
  • Theta
  • Soccer City

The cause of the flashover is being investigated.

The team is currently on-site busy with repairs.

“Unfortunately, no estimated restoration time has been given, but we are hoping to finish the repairs by early evening,” added Magena.
