Joburg South doctor makes waves in medical field

With Rech’s positive can-do attitude, the sky is the limit for the doctor whose heart remains in the South of Johannesburg.

Dr Dino Rech, a doctor from the South of Johannesburg, is making waves in the medical field and has recently been appointed as the CEO of Seattle-based company Audere.

The CHRONICLE recently caught up with Rech to find out what he has been up to since joining Audere.

Rech hails from the South of Johannesburg and attended Marist Brothers Linmeyer before going to the University of the Witwatersrand to study a medical degree.

In 2006, Rech qualified as a medical doctor from Wits and started practising at the Netcare Mulbarton Hospital after completing his community hours at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and the Natalspruit Hospital. In 2014, he completed his MBA at Wits.

In 2010, Rech started the Centre for HIV and Aids Prevention Studies (CHAPS) and was at the helm of the organisation until he left it in 2016.

When Rech left the organisation, it had approximately 400 staff members on its books and has established itself in a few sub-Sahara African countries.

Rech also spent time at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle as a senior programme officer.

In October 2021, he was announced as the CEO of Audere, a company that focuses on software that assists with connected home testing for a variety of diseases and illnesses.

With his Southern roots, Rech still locums at the Mulbarton hospital when he visits his family in South Africa.

“We as South Africans shouldn’t underestimate ourselves. We have left positive marks in almost every field, ranging from sports to medicine. We mustn’t be afraid of the unknown. South Africa always succeeds against the odds,” said Rech.

“If I can say anything to children to inspire them, it would be follow your passion, be humble but never be intimidated by other people. Everyone is talented in their own way and it’s important to always give back to others. It’s important to always help your community.”

With his success in the business and medical fields, Rech still has important goals to reach, like being the best father to his two children.

His latest project is with Medical Diagnostech, a South African company specialising in producing and developing rapid tests kits for various health issues.

With the partnership of Audere, Medical Diagnostech has developed and produced a high-quality and digitally connected Covid-19 provider and home test that will allow patients to test more easily, get their results and link to care within a few minutes. All this at a more affordable price point.

With Rech’s positive can-do attitude, the sky is the limit for the doctor whose heart remains in the South of Johannesburg.
