A woman with presence is a powerful woman

Forgy Mokalapa is an African woman who started a #BuildAWoman movement to empower and rebuild strength in women.

#BuildAWoman is a movement that was started to help women have heart-to-heart conversations that heal, unite and inspire through providing a platform where they can share their real-life stories.

The movement was established in August 2016 to celebrate Women’s Month in style.

According to the founder, Forgy Mokalapa (25), who lives in Dawn Park, the movement is aimed at empowering women to tap into their power.

She will host one of her events in Mayberry Park on April 9.

“I started the #BuildAWoman to unite women. I realised that we pull each other down as women more than we lift each other whereas we are actually stronger together than apart,” said Mokalapa.

Mokalapa believes that women are important beings because they influence their children, who later become parents.

These children grow up to be certain men and women in society based on the precepts they get from their mothers.

More enlightened, wise, confident and self-aware millennials in society mean it will have better members as these millennials grow into adulthood.

The short-term goal of the movement is to make sure that women are aware of this initiative and ensure that the events of empowering women are taking place consistently to impact women’s lives.

In five years, she hopes to see her movement being a national movement that is making its mark and changing the way women see themselves and how they relate to each other.

Mokalapa is also the founder of Ligotshwa Lisemanzi Career Awareness and Mentorship Programme, which aims to show high school learners the different career fields.

Ligotshwa Lisemanzi is a free career event that runs annually in June to commemorate Youth Month.

Forgy added she will ensure that the vision of the movement is fulfilled by sticking to the truth of women’s nature.
