Councillor pleased with JRAs work
More areas will be covered by JRA in the near future.
A blitz by Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to repair potholes, do road markings and open kerb inlets that are blocked was done in Ward 57 on April 14.
With the heavy rainfall experienced, more cracks on the roads and overflow of the stormwater drains were caused.
Councillor Faeeza Chame said usually cracks are formed because of the huge trucks and peak-hour traffic, which means that when the rainy summer months come around, rainwater seeps into the asphalt and the underlying layer and causes the cracks to widen which causes further damage.
It is JRAs responsibility to maintain public infrastructure and carry out regular repairs and maintenance of roads at a quicker rate.
“I would also like to urge residents to report vandalised traffic lights, potholes and blocked stormwater drains. In the past month, JRA already repaired over 3 045 potholes. I’m pleased that work already commenced in parts of Ward 57, like in Heriotdale, South Hills, Elandspark and Regents Park. Other areas will follow. There is still plenty of work that lies ahead in getting our roads and infrastructure in a good working condition,” she said.
