
Five suspects were arrested following a murder, which took place on April 20.
It is alleged that on the day at around 12:00, police were called to attend to the complaint of murder at the corner of South Rand Road and First Avenue, The Hill.
On their arrival, they found a dead body at the park and it was burnt beyond recognition. The only part which was visible was the burnt leg.
A murder case was registered at Moffat View SAPS for investigation.
Moffat View SAPS detectives conducted the investigation and it was established that there was a report of a missing person filed at the station. Investigations revealed that some of the property belonging to the missing person including a white Toyota Camry and firearm were stolen.
The detectives followed all the possible leads, which led to the arrest of five suspects and were charged with murder. The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage.
Communication officer Sgt Solly Matjila said the suspects appeared briefly before Booysens Magistrate’s Court and were denied bail and remanded in custody for further investigation.
“Station commander of Moffat View SAPS commended the swift response by the members. He urged the community to report the criminal activities by calling the station on 087 845 1516 or 087 845 1520 or calling the crime stop number 0800 10111 or call the nearest police station,” he said.
