JMPD clean-up in Jackson informal settlement leads to protest action
JMPD and Imvusa Security conducted a clean-up operation in Jackson informal settlement on May 24.
Members of the JMPD, with the help of Imvusa Security, conducted a clean-up operation in Jackson Farm informal settlement near Eikenhof, South of Johannesburg, on May 24.
Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD said, “Illegal land invasion remains a serious scourge in the City of Johannesburg where we see people illegally occupying pieces of land without approval from the legal owners of the land. Ninety-eight unoccupied galvanised zinc sheet structures (shacks) and 15 half-built unoccupied brick and mortar structures were demolished and removed.
“We encourage members of the public who witness or have any information regarding illegal land invasion to call the Anti-Land Invasion Hotline on 080 012 0555.”

Shortly after the operation concluded, residents from the informal settlement tried to block the R82 North Road out of anger.
The protesters dispersed soon afterwards without any damage done.
