Mondeor Meteors Football Club (MMFC) has been around since 1961.
The Comaro CHRONICLE recently visited the club.
The club plays in the Southern Local Football Association league, which is affiliated with the South African Football Association.
The club boasts 245 players, including two girls playing for the club. The club sports 13 teams, ranging from a U6 to a senior team.
The club’s vice-chairman, Clifford Alexander said, “The majority of our players are from Mondeor and surrounding areas. We have players from as far as Soweto. Families move and players tend to stay with the club as some players and coaches moved together from junior teams to more senior teams.
“Boys are now playing in Australia and the USA that started playing soccer with us.”

The club’s longest-serving member is Themba Shabangu, who works as the facility manager for the last 27 years.
MMFC is a community-based club as well as a registered NPC with all the money that parents can pay being spent on the players and the facilities.
After each season a special award evening is held to celebrate the accomplishments that the teams achieved. The top three players for each team are also announced and a trophy is given for their efforts throughout the season.
2022 is a big year for the club with teams getting new outfits at the start of the season, as well as revamp projects planned for the club. This includes upgrading the changing rooms to create a more family-friendly facility.
All these projects will help to enhance the look of the club as well as get more supporters to the field for home games.
