Police have urged to be aware of bogus cops hijacking cars.
Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications for Fidelity ADT, said the majority of cases have been reported on the R59 and Kliprivier Drive.
It has been reported that gangs pose as police officers (with blue lights), or they remove your number plate and drive next to you to show you, bump you, or show you that you have a flat tyre. They hijack you when they stopped you.
Tips on how to act when pulled over by bogus police officers:
• Only stop at public places such as filling stations and nearest police stations to verify the authenticity of police officers.
• Do not drive to your residential area.
• Do not stop at a deserted spot or area to talk on your phone or relieve yourself.
• Always keep your windows closed.
• If someone tries to force you out off the road, don’t panic but just blow your horn constantly to draw attention.
• Be on high alert and should you feel something is wrong or being followed, contact your nearest police station, Security Company or local CPF for assistance.
• Marked police vehicles always have a registration number ending in a ‘B’.
• All marked vehicles will feature the call sign number and station or unit it is assigned to.
