Great collaboration between photographer Kevin and musician Lungelo

Kevin and Lungelo are strong believers of working together and make the area a great place.

Photographer Kevin Ncana, of Nca Films, from West Turffontein and musician Lungelo ‘LuE’ Mabuya from Bellavista believe your surroundings don’t necessarily define you. You can be what you want at any given time.

They said they live in a crime-infested area, however, they have hope.“We’ve lost lots of friends who were the victims of shootings and gang-related violence, not to mention drugs. However, we want to create a great lasting impression on our area.

“It has been a hard year. We are trying to bring the community together because there’s power in unity. We need to hold hands and watch our backs,” explained Kevin.

He mentioned that he is in a better position than his peers. Kevin had an opportunity to further his studies at AFDA, however, he couldn’t pay the school fees.

“Some whom we were all accepted with couldn’t finish the course because they weren’t serious. I took it upon myself to teach myself what I know today. If you do what you love, you succeed.”

Purpose-driven

“We have shot several music videos which had plenty of airtime on Channel O. People are talking about us on other online platforms. That is why I got nominated for 011 Awards and the MAMAs. I also had a session with big clothing brands. Also to be recognized by Multichoice Talent Factory is a cherry on top,” he said.

LuE, who is a singer, writer and producer, said he believes in Kevin’s vision. “The way he handles the camera speaks for itself in the music videos. I make great collaborations that is why I performed on different stages including Oh My Jam at FNB Stadium.

“My music has a great impact on my community and children will often tell me that they look up to me for inspiration. I want to change my people for the better. My lyrics are capable of making people happy and bringing them closer to God.

“I’m here to elevate more people and give them positivity. I always tell my followers that I want them to go international if they want to follow my career and not be bound by their surroundings. They must not give up on their dreams. Doing what you love is a blessing,” noted LuE.

Kevin also mentioned that there are not enough role models in the South. He wants the younger generation to neither pick up guns nor join the gangsters.

“I encourage everyone to follow their passion and it is great when you are getting paid while at it. We must also know that depression and mental health are engulfing our youth. We must be aware and attempt to navigate through it to thrive,” he said.

Other than some of the big names and brands, Kevin also works with local artists. You can follow him on Instagram: Nca_Films and LuE on all social media @LuEniverse.
