Stepping Stone Hospice to host memorial day

In remembrance of loved ones, Stepping Stone Hospice is set to host its memorial day on October 2.

Stepping Stone Hospice will hold its annual memorial day celebration at the In-Patient Unit in New Market Park on October 2, from 11:30 to 12:00.

Families and friends get together each year for this memorial service to remember their loved ones and to rekindle their relationships with those who helped them in their final moments.

This will be the ninth memorial day since it opened its doors in 2013.

Stepping Stone CEO Tersia Burger said that nearly 2300 individuals who were in their care at one point or another have passed away, and they will always remember them with love.

She also celebrates the life of her daughter Vicky Bruce on the day. She was their very first patient (the reason Stepping Stone Hospice even exists), and the first person to pass away.

“The slogan ‘you are not alone has been our promise to the community from the very beginning, and that will never change,” said Tersia.

Families and friends are invited to bring a memento in honour of a loved one to place inside a memory capsule that will be placed in the hospice’s garden of remembrance that day.

Balloons in memory of loved ones will also be released. It is important to note that they only use biodegradable balloons, which they fill with plant seeds in an effort to spread colour wherever they land.
