Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg has learnt with shock about a shooting incident that occurred at its Robinson Landfill site on October 21.
Three re-claimers who operate at the site were shot and wounded. Two of the shooting victims were seriously wounded and rushed to hospital while another one suffered minor injuries.
Muzi Mkhwanazi, Pikitup spokesperson said the police were notified about the incident and they are investigating the matter.
“Although the motive for the shootings is yet to be established it is believed that the incident might have been caused by turf wars between rival waste pickers operating at the site,” he said.
