Two women accused of killing a six-year-old resubmit their bail applications

Desiree and Lungile Ndebele are to appear again before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court for their bail hearing on November 9.

The two women accused of killing Ryan Mutinzi (6) made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on November 1.

Two charges, murder and defeating the ends of justice, were brought against Desiree and Lungile Ndebele when they first appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Desiree and Lungile recently re-applied for bail after being denied bail on May 31.

According to the magistrate, bail was previously denied because the women are accused of a horrific and shocking act. Additionally, the magistrate rejected their request for bail because both suspects are immigrants from Zimbabwe.

According to medical records, the deceased died as a result of dehydration, poor dental hygiene and malnutrition. The medical investigation also found that a harmful chemical material was used on the body of the late Ryan, causing burns and other injuries to his skin.

Ryan was discovered dead, but the pathologist believes he was still alive when they disposed of his body.
Due to Ryan’s helplessness and inability to defend himself, the magistrate additionally characterised the offence as an instance of gender-based violence.

Desiree and Lungile’s case is classified under schedule five.

The next bail hearing of the two suspects is scheduled for November 9.
