Alberton SAPS has issued a stringent warning, particularly for men, to be vigilant of a new criminal trend which has surfaced.
This comes after cases of theft have been opened by male victims who had fallen victim to theft from unknown females, potentially identified as ‘women of the night’.
Alberton SAPS acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Simpe Makopo has revealed that men are reporting cases of theft involving women they offer lifts to at night.
“We have discovered that men would pick up ladies at night and take them to their houses, enjoy themselves and eventually the man would fall asleep. As soon as they sleep, the female culprit will take anything from car keys, cellphones and wallets,” he said.
He said they recently had a case in one of their policing precincts where a vehicle was also taken.
Makopo said such cases are gradually picking up and are difficult to work around, as these female culprits don’t leave a trace of their identity or whereabouts. Men are warned to be extra vigilant when they come across these females.
To report such cases, contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111, Alberton SAPS at 011 861 6800 or Brackendowns SAPS at 011 617 5600.
