Maruthe Motsepe aims to reach the sky with his comic strip work
Maruthe believes that everyone is different in their own way and they should work hard to make their dreams a reality.
Alberton’s Maruthe Motsepe (20) managed to find his feet through art, producing a comic strip at a time when he was going through hardships.
According to Maruthe, people close to his heart always compared him to others his age because he was not good with books. However, he always felt that he was good at something but he did not quite know what it was. He also knew that his yet-to-be-discovered talent would be something so different from the rest.
“As much as I knew that whatever was said to me was meant to negatively affect me, it was the strongest building block of my life because it helped me to stay in my lane and discover my potential. I learnt to stand firm in my position and not give up,” said Maruthe.
Through all of this, he discovered his talent for drawing coming strips.
A tough start
The young comic artist started printing comic strip T-shirts during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Maruthe was a learner in Alberton High School and he is currently upgrading his matric results as he still believes that school helps to enhance your thinking ability.
“It helps one solve problems appropriately because of the information that one gets from school makes you think things through thoroughly,” he said.
“Being featured in the Alberton Record has been one of my longest-desired dreams and I am glad that it has finally come true. This has to be one of the meaningful lessons in my life because it has taught me that through patience and perseverance, our dreams do come true,” said the young man.
According to the aspiring cartoonist, his work is not just a comic strip, and he also spreads the word of God through this art. Through small purchases he has managed to help at home with some needs and essentials.
“Making sure that every day I get up and hustle in order to make my dreams a reality gave me a reason to develop more passion and rebuild myself as an individual,” said Maruthe.
The comic strip t-shirts differ in price as per colours.
