Liteman Electrical Distributors to celebrate 41 years

Back in 1982, when Issy and Camille took over the shop, it was four times smaller in size and there was still a local restaurant and cinema close to them.

It’s about adapting to change but doing business the old-school way for the owners of Liteman Electrical Distributors PTY LTD.

With that in mind, there are no computers in their offices and everything is still written down and done manually.

“We just find it works for us. In Liteman Electrical, the main computer brain is my father, Issy,” said manager Tammy Segal.

Tammy is the daughter of the owners Issy and Camile Segal and she has been working for the business for the last 12 years.

During the year of their 41st anniversary, it will be a significant milestone for them.

A landmark in the area

Back in 1982, when Issy and Camille took over the shop, it was four times smaller in size and there was still a local restaurant and cinema close to them.

“That is how long we have been here,” said Camille.

“We have seen so many shops come and go. We have seen so many changes but we still feel safe and supported,” said the couple.

In May this year they will celebrate Liteman Electrical’s 41st birthday and what makes it even more special is that they have been located in the same place for all of this time.

They are still in the same store in the Nevada Centre. The only thing that has changed is the size of their store as they have expanded.

“We are one big family who will go the extra mile for our clients. Should there be an electrical or lighting product that we do not have in stock, we will procure it for you within a very fast turnaround time, normally within 24 hours. We are unique as we are self-service,” said Issy.

Everyone at Liteman Electrical is passionate about people and are expert in their industry.

“We have 15 staff members and let me tell you they are all hard-working and they all know their products. We all work wonderfully together,” said the owners.

“Our store has become a landmark in the area as there are so many stories to tell and still to this day we get customers who will tell us of their memories as a child in this store. Or they will ask us do you remember my grandfather,” said Tammy.

The famous Mr Liteman

There would have been so many stories to tell if Mr Liteman, the store’s mannequin, could speak. It began with people talking to him at night, as if he were really there, then meeting some famous celebrities like actor Arnold Vosloo and well-known fashion designer Gert Jan Coetzee.

Proud owners, Camille and Issy Segal.

“The children loved and still love Mr Liteman,” said Camile.

Forty years later

Liteman Electrical Distributors PTY LTD have been lighting the way of Albertonians for four decades and they are not planning to stop any time soon.

The owners are excited about the future and they look forward to the next 41 years.

“We have all your needs under one roof. We stock a large variety of electrical and lighting products at extremely competitive prices. We sell directly to the public and to tradesmen, electricians, electrical and building contractors, property developers, shop fitters and retail outlets. Your one-stop electrical supply store,” said Issy.

Tammy told the newspaper that Vosloo visits the shop frequently to buy goods to upgrade and renovate his mother’s home.

“We have had residents who have relocated who still support us and then we will courier their goods to them.”

“Even through lockdown and tough times, especially now with load-shedding, our clients still support us.”

“Thank you to Albertonians and to those who don’t live here anymore for your constant and loyal support.”

“It has been a pleasure serving the community nearly 41 years. We would not have come so far without our customers,” said one of the owners.

In addition, they wish to thank their loyal staff members for being part of this family business’ success story.
“Our landlords have been very helpful to us. Thank you very much.”
