Local racers finish well during the Historic and Inland Championship

Alberton based racers recently offered some entertaining racing to spectators who showed up at Zwartkops Raceway, and also brought home a combination of results.

A chilly and windy day at the Red Star pits offered up a mixed bag of results for Alberton-based racers in the third round of the Inland Historic Tour held on June 10 at Zwartkops Raceway.

Rob van Aarle of Meyersdal, piloting a very rapid Ace Auto Salvage 1969 Ford Escort Mk1, competed in the Ben Morgenrood Group Pursuit Challenge. Rob qualified fifth and finished third in Heat 1 and second in Heat 2.

In the Formula Monoposto category, mechanical problems prevented Blane de Meillon of Brackendowns from competing. Blane and his team will be working furiously behind the scenes to get his car ready for the next race.

Bruce van Niekerk of Brackenhurst, also competing in the Formula Monoposto Category, scored a pair of second places in Class D despite having brake issues which made for some entertaining racing.

“A big thank you to all the supporters who made the trip out to Red Star as well as the supporters who followed our progress on social media. Also, a big shout out to the event organisers, marshals, medical personnel and sponsors without whom it would not be possible to compete,” said van Niekerk.
