ANC Ward 56 Molly Blackburn Branch hosted a Freedom Day Sports and Voter Registration Programme on April 27. The event was led by sports subcommittee coordinator Nonthethelelo Mbhentse and branch secretary Zandile Tembani.
It aimed to showcase local talent and encourage voter registration ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Four soccer teams participated in the games. Rivonia Rovers defeated Greenhouse Youth Development in the final to emerge as the overall winners. The winning team received a full soccer kit, medals and a trophy, while other teams were also awarded trophies and medals.
Youth could also participate in various other sporting codes, such as indigenous games and aerobics.
The programme received valuable support from the ANC Women’s League coordinator, Ntombosindiso Mafentile and SANCO secretary Nomawisile Meslane, with special thanks to Cde Mvelase and Pastor Mtyhida, Cde Simphiwe Hlafa and Cde Mzukisi Charlie Maqwara, and not forgetting the zonal elections team for their generous contributions and donations towards the success of the event.
