Gauteng residents urged to apply for 2027 nursing intake
Eligible applicants have until October 30 to apply for a nursing diploma, with no application or admission fees payable.
The Gauteng Department of Health is encouraging eligible young people who are passionate about caring for others to apply for the 2027 Student Nurse Intake at the Gauteng College of Nursing.
The programme offers successful applicants an opportunity to study towards a Diploma in Nursing at one of four campuses: Ann Latsky, Bonalesedi, Chris Hani Baragwanath, and SG Lourens.
Applicants must be South African citizens who reside in Gauteng and completed their matric in the province. They must hold a Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate, or National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4, and meet the prescribed admission requirements.
All shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo a compulsory psychometric assessment. Successful candidates will also undergo medical surveillance and verification of their submitted documents.
The department said applicants who are already receiving funding from a government department, state-funded scheme, or public entity, including the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, will not be considered. Those already enrolled at a tertiary institution are also ineligible.
Applications must be submitted online through the department’s nursing intake portal at nursingintake.gauteng.gov.za.
Applicants must upload certified copies of their identity documents and matric certificates in PDF format. No walk-in applications will be accepted.
Successful candidates will be required to sign a learning contract with the college and participate in Work Integrated Learning as part of their training.
The practical component will require students to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and night duty at department facilities.
The department has also warned prospective applicants against scams involving individuals who claim they can secure admission in exchange for payment.
Applications for the 2027 intake are free, and no application or admission fees are payable at any stage of the process.
The closing date for applications is October 30. Due to the anticipated high volume of applications, only successful candidates will be contacted.
