Hollard Daredevil Run returns to Johannesburg to raise cancer awareness

Men across South Africa are encouraged to take part in the annual 5km run to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancers and the importance of early detection.

The 2026 Hollard Daredevil Run will take place on Friday, October 23, at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg and at various locations across South Africa.

The annual initiative aims to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancers and highlight the importance of early detection.

Participants run 5km wearing purple speedos as part of the campaign, which carries the tagline “Lekker Balls. Lekker Life” this year.

Hollard South Africa’s head of experiential marketing, Adél Kriel, says the event’s distinctive outfits help draw attention to its message about men’s health.

“We know that thousands of men running in purple speedos gets people’s attention. What matters is what we do with that attention,” says Kriel.

“There is bravery in putting on a purple speedo in public, but behind this bold campaign is a very serious message: Know your risks, know your body and don’t put off getting checked. It could save your life.”

Funds raised through the event support the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF). The organisations use the funding for awareness campaigns, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening initiatives and patient support.

The Johannesburg event will take place at Zoo Lake from 15:00 on October 23. Further details about runs at other locations across the country will be shared on the Daredevil Run’s social media platforms.

Kriel says the campaign aims to encourage conversations about men’s health beyond race day, including in families, workplaces and communities.

“This October, purple is more than a colour. It’s a conversation starter, but its real impact comes when that conversation extends beyond race day into families, workplaces and communities. The more people who take part, the further that message can reach,” she says.
