Police encourage the community to work with them to fight crime.

Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested four suspects for different crimes in the Johannesburg area and recovered one vehicle and two unlicensed firearms with ammunitions, between August 26 to 29.

Four suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and one red Toyota Sedan that was stolen at Royal Park Avenue in Mondeor was recovered.

Two firearms, a R5 rifle and 9mm Glock pistol with ammunition, were recovered and booked at SAP 13. SAPS members are determined to ensure the safety of their communities by eradicating illegal firearms which have ended up in the hands of criminals.

Meanwhile, on August 26, Johannesburg K9 members arrested two suspects for armed robbery.

Officers responded to a business robbery at Rebel Footwear, Meadowdale, and on arrival at the scene, 17 suspects started running in different directions.

Two suspects fled into an abandoned building and the officers utilised police dog Billy and managed to apprehend the suspects. Both suspects were searched and stolen cellphones and cash were recovered.

The suspects were both charged and detained at Bedfordview SAPS for armed robbery.

Johannesburg Flying Squad communication officer Raymond Sambo said the investigation continues in all cases and that working together with the community led to these recoveries.

“SAPS appreciates the public for their contribution. It should also be noted that any information regarding the vehicles, you may contact the relevant detective quoting the relevant case number.”

Six suspects appeared in court facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunitions and armed robbery.
