Oakdene suspected house burglar fatally shot
Communities are encouraged to continue collaborating with the police by reporting crimes, suspicious persons and activities.
The police fatally shot a suspect in a shoot-out after a house robbery in Oakdene on March 6.
At about 18:30, Johannesburg Flying Squad members were patrolling when they received a lookout for two vehicles – a grey Q3 Audi and a silver Chery 8 – taken in a house robbery at Oakdene on Lebombo Street.
Johannesburg Flying Squad media officer Raymond Sambo said the members followed up on the information and went to Chiawelo in Soweto. While patrolling, they saw the vehicles fitting the given descriptions at the corner of Chris Hani and Kanya roads.
“On seeing the police, the suspects started shooting in their direction, so the members returned fire. One suspect driving a grey Q3 Audi was fatally wounded, and the other suspects managed to speed away.
“Members recovered the vehicle a short distance from the scene.
“Officers found a 9mm Retax pistol with ammunition next to the suspect and all the items taken from the house robbery. The vehicles were taken to Lenasia SAP 13 impound, and a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted murder was opened at the Moroka SAPS,” he said.
