Eight arrested, firearms seized, and undocumented individuals detained during major joint operation targeting infrastructure crimes.
Mondeor police, in partnership with PRASA and private security companies, arrested eight suspects during an integrated operation targeting infrastructure-related crimes in the area.
According to Johannesburg District Corporate Communications Co-ordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane, the operation took place within the Mondeor policing precinct between May 29 and 30.
“The operation focused on addressing the scourge of economic infrastructure-related crimes in the area,” said Lt Col Tshetlhane.
The arrested suspects, who are aged between 20 and 42, are expected to appear in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court soon. Two men, aged 25 and 35, were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, while six others were taken into custody for being undocumented.
During the operation, police recovered two pistols, various rounds of ammunition including shotgun, rifle and pistol rounds, a penduka, and two generators.

The Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, praised the officers and their partners for their dedication in tackling infrastructure crimes and removing illegal firearms from the streets. She also encouraged the community to continue assisting police by reporting any information or tip-offs related to cable theft and the destruction of essential infrastructure.
“The success of these operations depends greatly on community involvement, and we urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” said Major General Kubheka.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying these types of operations to safeguard essential infrastructure and improve safety in Johannesburg South.
