JMPD conducts by-law enforcement operation

JMPD ensures compliance with municipal regulations.

On June 9, JMPD conducted a by-law enforcement operation in Rosettenville and La Rochelle in Joburg South.

The operation targeted street hawkers and shops at informal taxi ranks to ensure compliance with municipal regulations.

JMPD checked for valid trading permits and adherence to by-law requirements. The inspection found that five street hawkers either lacked permits or had expired ones, while two shops failed to display their permits.

Only one shop had a valid permit and displayed it correctly.

The JMPD commends its officers for their dedication to enforcing these regulations. The department remains committed to ensuring that all hawkers, traders, and shop owners operate within the law, helping to maintain a fair and safe business environment in the city.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla explained the importance of enforcing by-laws: “We must enforce by-laws because of the surge in food poisonings, illegal dumping in the area, and general roadside crime. These laws are in place to prevent such issues from occurring.”
