4 suspects in South Hills murder remain behind bars
Legal aid delays force court to postpone matter involving four suspects linked to fatal shooting.
The four suspects in the South Hills murder case appeared at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on September 25.
Accused 1, 2, and 4 presented their defence, while accused 3 applied for legal aid. The case was being heard for a bail application, but the legal aid attorneys, Mr Ramashiya and Mr Chauke, were not present to represent accused 3.
The four are facing charges of murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of drugs.
Their first court appearance was on September 1, following a fatal shooting near Moffat View Police Station, where a 63-year-old man was shot nine times in the head at the corner of Henderson and Anwin roads.
A minor involved in the case has not been identified as either an accused or a witness, as media and other court attendees were asked to step out while the court spoke to the minor.
Magistrate Mashitse later called attendees back and postponed the case.
“The accused will remain in custody until October 7. Bail has not been finalised, and accused 3 requires legal aid,” said Magistrate Mashitse.
