Hamlet Foundation staff receive hand-knitted teddies in heartfelt gesture
The Teddy Bear Project: Knitted and given with love, never sold.
Staff at The Hamlet Foundation were gifted special hand-knitted teddy bears, each with blessings, on August 31 as part of The Teddy Bear Project.
The teddy bears are knitted by Bettie Aucamp, fitted with toy eyes made by a team member, prayed over and donated, but never sold.
The gifted teddy bears let recipients know that someone loves them and is always praying over them.
To date, Bettie has knitted an incredible 3 190 teddy bears.
Her journey to start knitting teddy bears came from a time of severe grief and sadness when her husband fell ill and was hospitalised.
During that time, her son, who was assisting her and the rest of the family, took ill with a fatal heart condition and passed away even before her husband, who passed away about a month later.
All this happened in the space of about two months.
Bettie and her family were devastated by the unexpected double loss.
“With the Lord holding my hand and starting to spread the word of God by knitting the bears, God gave me the talent to do my part, and I will always be thankful,” said Bettie.
The Hamlet Foundation said it is grateful that Bettie and her team chose it as a recipient.
“The lesson we can learn from her is that acts of service and faith can lighten the load of life’s heavier burdens that we may face,” said The Hamlet Foundation chief executive officer Segri Subrumuny.
