Johannesburg District Police recover 11 hijacked and stolen vehicles

Brigadier Egen Moodley applauded the police and their commitment in curbing crime.

The police in Johannesburg District recovered 11 vehicles during operations that were held throughout the district from April 13 to 17.

Jhb District Corporate Communication, Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane, said some of the vehicles were recovered during intelligence-driven operations, and others were recovered by Johannesburg Flying Squad members during operations that were held throughout the district.

On April 17, the police followed up on intelligence information in Booysens regarding a suspect having a suspicious vehicle at Turffontein.

Upon arrival at the mentioned address, the 34-year-old man was found stripping the dashboard of a Hyundai i10. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was hijacked at Rabie Ridge. He was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

The police also arrested a 37-year-old man on April 17 at Braamfischer in Dobsonville. He was found in possession of a Hyundai H100 bakkie that had been reported stolen in Booysens.

Other vehicles were found in Alexandra, Diepkloof Zone 1 and Protea Glen.

The acting District Commissioner for Johannesburg, Brigadier Egen Moodley, commended the members for their commitment and coordinated response to information received from the community. “We will continue to intensify operations to ensure that those involved in illegal activities are brought to book,” said Brigadier Moodley.

He urged community members to continue reporting criminal activities in their areas by phoning the nearest police station or the crime stop number 08600 10111, or alternatively, using the MySAPSApp to provide tip-offs anonymously.
