Police and private security are on the scene following an armed robbery at Columbine Square Shopping Centre in Mondeor.

According to law enforcement officials on the scene, the suspects allegedly robbed one of the stores before firing shots as they flee the shopping centre.

The suspects are intercepted by police, and a shootout ensues. However, they manage to flee in the direction of Kliprivier Road. No injuries are reported.

It is unclear how the suspects escape, as a bakkie and a Suzuki Swift believed to be linked to the incident remain at the scene.

Members of Mondeor SAPS, law enforcement, CPS Security, Fox Security and ADT are on the scene.

Columbine Avenue and Swartgoud Street remain cordoned off while officials investigate. Motorists and shoppers are advised to avoid the area and follow the instructions of officials on the scene.

Shops at Columbine Square remain open for business.
