No estimated time for restoration in Pan Road and 4th Street after generator fails
City Power warns of constrained power system as Reuven SDC faces 541 outages.
City Power has issued an urgent update for customers serviced by the Reuven Service Delivery Centre (SDC), warning that the power system is currently constrained and urging residents to reduce electricity consumption to prevent further overload.
The entity confirmed that the Reuven SDC is dealing with 541 open calls related to outages across the area.
According to City Power, the main issue affecting supply is at the Wemmer Substation.
The technical team has removed a faulty generator that was meant to provide temporary relief to customers in Pan Road, 4th Street, and surrounding areas and transported it to the transformer bay for testing to determine the extent of the damage.
However, following the failure of the temporary supply, customers in the affected areas remain without power.
At this stage, there is no estimated time for the restoration of supply, according to City Power.
Efforts to source a replacement mini-substation are ongoing to facilitate a permanent restoration of supply.
Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson, said the utility is working to stabilise the network.
“We understand how frustrating outages are, especially in winter. Our teams are on the ground assessing the damage at Wemmer and sourcing a replacement unit. In the meantime, we urge all customers to switch off non-essential appliances to help ease pressure on the grid and prevent additional outages,” Mangena said.
Residents affected by outages may contact City Power directly on 0860 562 874 for more information.
City Power thanked customers for their patience and said updates will be provided as repairs and replacement work progress.
