Johannesburg Flying Squad officers arrested two suspects for alleged extortion and impersonating a police officer in Glenvista on Tuesday.

According to Johannesburg Flying Squad media liaison Raymond Sambo, officers were on patrol at about 10:30 when they received information about suspects allegedly impersonating a police officer at Glenanda Village Shopping Centre.

Sambo said officers responded to the corner of Vorster and Glen avenues, where they found two male suspects, a police officer and a civilian.

“It is alleged that the suspects were extorting money from a Chinese shopkeeper by claiming he had employed undocumented foreign nationals,” said Sambo.

The two suspects were arrested on charges of extortion and impersonating a police officer.

They were detained at the Mondeor SAPS for further investigation.

Police investigations are ongoing.
