Robinson landfill site fire extinguished

Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg, informed residents that the fire that raged at its Robison landfill site was extinguished.

On May 2, Muzi Mkhwanazi, the Pikitup spokesperson, said the fire broke out on April 21. The cause is unknown, and the matter was reported to the SAPS for investigation.

“Pikitup thanks the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services and its employees who worked around the clock to extinguish the fire. The waste management company is also indebted to the residents who stay adjacent to the site for their understanding and patience during the incident.

“Residents, particularly those residing near the landfill, are urged to report people who start open fires next to the site to the JMPD to avert a future recurrence of the event,” he said.
