WATCH: Bellavista Old Age Home residents want service delivery
It has been more than two years since there was maintenance at Bellavista Old Age Home.
Bellavista Old Age Home residents feel neglected after the City of Johannesburg failed to answer their complaints.
These complaints vary from burst water pipes to not having working geysers. The home invited the Southern Courier to have a look at some issues.
Adri and Jan Phillipson said since May, they had to resort to a makeshift geyser as theirs is not working.

“We are not the only ones without geysers. Others had no warm water since October last year, and Francis du Toit for seven months.
“We report these to our manager, Greg Mackett, but nothing has been done. Even councillor Rashieda Landis knows our plight,” noted the Phillipsons.
On inspecting the home, one finds a ‘mini river’ meandering through the units. The residents said nobody cared about this clean water wasted, as this leak was months old.
They also mentioned they sometimes pay a plumber to fix the leaks. They do not have money to do so now.
Landis said she was aware of these problems and reported them.
“The city sent contractors, but that is where it stops. I brought this to the attention of the MMC of housing.
“I also requested a site visit, not only for this old aged home but for the entire Bellavista Estate. To date, they received no visit and no response.

The home’s manager, Greg Mackett, said he was under extreme pressure because there was no maintenance in the last two years.
The Southern Courier will update the community about the developments of this story from the city’s perspective.
