Help Elizabeth start a cancer fund for men
Elizabeth Harris is ready to birth a cancer fund to help her husband and all men suffering from cancer
With the expensive cost of cancer treatment, Elizabeth Harris has identified a need for a cancer fund for men with cancer.
The idea for the fund came to Elizabeth after the ongoing medical treatment required for her husband, John Harris.
John was diagnosed in 2015 with prostate cancer that spread to his lymph glands.
Before Covid-19, the business owned by John was doing well. However, after the epidemic, everything went downhill.
Elizabeth said, “The business operations helped you pay the medical bills, but it has been extremely challenging since Covid-19. I identified a need for men living with cancer.”
She wants to start an organisation to help male cancer patients pay for medical consultations, X-rays, nuclear medicine, scans and injections. As much as she sought to assist her husband, she also sought to help men in the Johannesburg South area.
“There is a tremendous amount of emphasis on breast cancer for women and other cancers but not enough emphasis on cancer impacting men,” Elizabeth said.
With no knowledge of how to start a non-profit organisation, Elizabeth is seeking assistance to create a safe place for men. “I want men to know there is help, and the organisation should be that place of help for them,” explains Elizabeth.
She intends to have support groups, educational programmes, and awareness campaigns and raise funds through the organisation.
