SOJO hosts successful charity golf day and launches Helping Hands Foundation

The bar was raised with a remarkable amount fundraised for a worthy cause.

SOJO held its Annual Charity Golf Day, together with Gold Reef City as the main sponsor and partner. The popular annual event raised the bar with a notable R235,000 worth of fundraising.

A large portion of this will be attributed to the freshly registered SOJO Helping Hands Foundation, formed to assist local charities and NGO’s in the work they are already doing.

Amongst the many charities included are, soup kitchens for the homeless and destitute, orphanages, seniors, mentally challenged, and many others.

The foundation aims to improve the lives of those who are most vulnerable by offering a platform for basic skills training and development through carpentry, urban farming, sewing, and other similar self-sustaining opportunities.

The hope is that people with specific needs will be integrated back into society to give them a sense of dignity and responsibility, where they have previously been neglected.

SOJO is proud to be able to achieve this major milestone with their key members and partners who give tirelessly every year.

A massive contribution was also made by Egoli Gas who donated R60 000 to the foundation. Nicky Vakaloudis, CEO of SOJO presented the purpose of the foundation, expressing that this has been something long in waiting and she is delighted to see it finally come to fruition. A video was shown of the work achieved this year, highlighting the Mandela Day event.

This year’s golf day saw a record break of 22 four-ball teams, smartly dressed in their branded Gold Reef City and SOJO golf shirts and caps, proudly sponsored by Gold Reef City, ready to play at the Reading Country Club in Alberton.
