Bassonia SPAR’s heartfelt commitment to education
Meet the manager of Bassonia SPAR, who's dedicated to empowering local students.

Tiaan Pienaar, manager of Bassonia SPAR and Sue Lubbe, have a passion for education and a heart for the underprivileged children of Johannesburg.
Through their efforts, the store has become a beacon of hope for WH Coetzer Primary School in the Hill, providing essential support and resources to help students thrive.
From collecting stationery, food, groceries, and shoes, to sponsoring the school’s feeding scheme, Bassonia SPAR’s contributions have made a tangible difference in the lives of these young learners.
In 2007, the store’s efforts were recognised by the Gauteng Department of Education, which awarded them for their outstanding commitment to education.
For Tiaan, this work is personal. “Poverty is rife in the south of Johannesburg,” he said. “Education is key for our children to one day become role models in their communities,” he continued.
Through Bassonia SPAR’s continued support, Tiaan and Sue aim to empower these students to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential.
