The media and communication officer for the Johannesburg Harriers Athletic Club (JHAC), Mahlatse Bojanyane, will lace up her running shoes at the Comrades Marathon to support the Rise Against Hunger Africa NPC on June 8.
The NPC provides meals to children and families in need.
Bojanyane shared, “I believe every child deserves a happy meal, so I invited my family, friends, colleagues and fellow runners to join me in supporting this mission by donating from as little as R10.”
As part of her fundraising, she approached the JHAC committee about dedicating the training on April 12 for the Rise Against Hunger Africa Run so the participants could contribute R50 to Rise Against Hunger Africa.
“I am beyond grateful that the club committee has supported my Comrades run for Rise Against Hunger Africa,” said the runner.
The fundraising distances were 5km to 32km in support of the NPC, and runners honoured the theme, wearing red and black with some cute flair.
Bojanyane aimed to raise at least R6 000, and with the runners’ help, they raised R4 050.
“I have now reached and exceeded my target, which I am grateful for,” she said.
“A massive thank you to aQuellé SA for sponsoring water for the Rise Against Hunger Africa Run on April 12. Their generosity humbled me. I also thank my amazing friends, family and colleagues who donated without hesitation. I am overwhelmed with love and gratitude.”
The runner highlighted the Bible scripture Ruth 2:12, which says, “May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done”.
“On Comrades day, I will not run for myself only. I will run for this worthy charity, Rise Against Hunger Africa, and everyone who supported and donated to this worthy cause,” Bojanyane shared.
