City Power Johannesburg introduces SSEG application process for Solar PV installations
City Power emphasizes “Approval Before Installation” for new SSEG solar projects.
Johannesburg’s municipal electricity utility, City Power, has announced a revised application procedure for Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) installations, aimed at customers who wish to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The new process aims to streamline approvals and ensure compliance with municipal regulations before any installation begins.
The municipality has outlined a six-step application roadmap that customers must follow to legally install a solar PV system.
City Power stresses that all SSEG solar PV projects must secure municipal approval prior to installation.
The steps include obtaining an electricity supply application notification number, submitting a Solar PV application form to jozipvpower@citypower.co.za, undergoing a City Power site inspection, submitting a Certificate of Compliance and PV Commissioning Form after installation, and receiving pre-approval and final approval letters.
Assistance is available by contacting City Power on 011 490 7484. You will be assisted by a representative.
