Burst pipe at Yeoville Reservoir cuts water supply to multiple Joburg areas

Areas hit by low pressure or no water a all.

Several inner-city suburbs are facing water disruptions after Johannesburg Water closed the outlet of the Yeoville Reservoir and suspended pumping operations to the tower due to a burst pipe on Wednesday night, 11 June 2026.

The utility issued a customer notice at 22:01 saying the shutdown was necessary to enable repairs and prevent further water losses.

Repair teams have isolated the affected pipeline and are currently draining the line in preparation for hot work and welding.

Johannesburg Water says the following systems may experience poor pressure or no water:

• Yeoville Reservoir

• Yeoville Pump Station

• Forest Hill Tower

• Forest Hill Direct Feeds

• Hector Norris Pump Station

Two additional systems are expected to decline overnight due to the disruption: Berea Reservoir and Parktown 2 Reservoir.

There is no estimated time of restoration at this stage. However, the entity confirmed that repair teams are on site and working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.

Johannesburg Water urged affected residents and businesses to store water in advance and use it sparingly until the supply is normalised.
