SASSA Gold Card users urged to switch before August deadline
Social grant beneficiaries still using SASSA Gold Cards have been urged to replace them with Postbank Black Cards before the August 30 deadline to avoid disruptions to their grant payments.
Social grant beneficiaries in Alberton and surrounding areas, who are still using SASSA Gold Cards, have been urged to replace them with the new Postbank Black Cards before the end of August to avoid losing access to their grant payments.
Postbank announced that the July social grant payment cycle will be the final opportunity for beneficiaries to access their grants using SASSA Gold Cards.
After August 30, the cards will no longer be accepted for any transactions as they are being phased out.
Postbank chief commercial officer Thami Cele appealed to beneficiaries who have not yet switched to the new cards to do so during the July payment period.
“We appeal to every grant beneficiary who has not yet migrated to the new Black Cards to use the July payment period to replace their SASSA Gold Cards.
“Failure to do so will result in beneficiaries being unable to access their payments with their SASSA Gold Cards, as the cards have expired and will no longer be accepted in the payments system.
“The replacement of the cards is essential to ensure uninterrupted access to payments, and we encourage all affected grant beneficiaries to act now and avoid unnecessary inconvenience,” said Cele.
According to Postbank, beneficiaries who fail to replace their cards before the deadline will not be able to access their social grant payments using their current cards.
The bank has been replacing cards since April but says the response from beneficiaries has been much lower than expected.
To assist beneficiaries, Postbank has extended operating days at many replacement sites to include Saturdays.
The bank has also advised anyone whose SASSA Gold Card has been lost or stolen, or is experiencing problems, to replace it immediately rather than wait until the deadline.
The new Postbank Black Cards can be collected at Postbank service points located inside selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores.
Beneficiaries must bring a valid South African ID or temporary ID when collecting their new card. The replacement is free of charge, requires no forms and the Black Card is activated immediately.
Existing grant balances will automatically transfer to the new card.
