Award-winning Maskandi artist Mlethwa Majola will release his latest EP, Utshwala Abunankinga, at the end of September.

The Booysens-based artist said the six-track EP is a celebration of love, life and people who have made their mark in the Maskandi music industry.

The EP features songs such as Wuwe Lo, Awuthi Khuba, Abasothandweni, Sengiyawuyeka Umjolo and Islingo.

One of the standout tracks, Awuthi Khuba, pays tribute to well-known Maskandi musician Khuzani ‘Khuba’ Mpungose.

Majola said the song was inspired by his belief that artists should learn to celebrate and acknowledge one another, rather than compete through jealousy.

“Here I’m teaching other musicians that praising another singer who is in the same genre as you is actually noble. He is doing well and he has done remarkable things in the industry,” said Majola.

He said he often noticed jealousy among artists, something he believes needs to change.

“We must give praise when it is due. We must do it while he is still alive, while he can still smell the flowers we are giving him. I’m encouraging everyone to follow suit,” he said.

According to Majola, recognising another artist’s achievements does not diminish one’s own success; instead, he believes it contributes to building a stronger and more supportive music industry.

The EP combines different themes, with Majola describing it as a mixture of love songs and praise.

“I am sure Maskandi lovers will appreciate this EP, and I would also like to thank them for always supporting my music,” he said.

Majola’s latest release comes as he continues to establish himself in the Maskandi genre while using his music to celebrate fellow musicians and connect with his audience.
