If only I had R500, my puppy would be alive

I’m so heart broken, I miss you Snippie, and I hope that lady remembers me. I am disgusted and cross

I want to thank the JSPCA’s team for helping the animals in the underprivileged areas.

Well I want to tell my story; I am from Bellavista, an underprivileged area, I am a pensioner. I went to the JSPCA with my puppy in the beginning of June. An elderly lady helped me there, my puppy ( five months old) needed his injections. I asked the lady to help me, I will pay the account off and she said if I don’t pay R500, they can’t help me.

I said to her, please my puppy must get his injections, and she said sorry if I don’t give ther R500 there’s nothing she can do. I told her several times that I’m a pensioner and I haven’t that kind of money in cash. However she just kept saying sorry, come back with the money, then they will help me. After three weeks my puppy started vomiting, I was in a terrible state, my puppy was sick and I didn’t have the money to take him to the JSPCA, and they won’t help me.

A very helpful lady came and said she will take the puppy to a private vet, with God’s grace the vet took him in, and he died of Parvo the following day, July 8. My heart is broken, if only the lady at JSPCA could have helped me that day my puppy wouldn’t have died, if only he had his injections that day.

I’m so heart broken, I miss you Snippie, and I hope that lady remembers me. I am disgusted and cross.

Jolene Beyleveld from JSPCA responded:

Our condolences on the loss of Snippie. We would obviously like to investigate the allegations, but it is unclear as to whom the complainant spoke to. I ask that the complainant contact me with more details relating to the “elderly women”, of who she refers to in the letter including the date and time, allowing us to investigate. For record purposes, our vaccinations cost R80 to R900 and not R500 as stated in the letter. It is our policy to assist all animals belonging to those people who cannot afford the services of a private vet and of course these people would need to “qualify” for welfare services depending on their income bracket.
