Although commendable and necessary, I believe that they are fighting a losing battle. Lately, one hardly sees any open ground without substantial volumes of unsightly building rubble. My suggestion is that Pikitup change their current policy of charging an arm and a leg for accepting building rubble at the city’s official dump sites and make it free.
By encouraging people to bring their rubble to official dump sites for free, they will probably in the end save more than the R170 million per annum currently spent cleaning up illegal littering and dumping.
