WE live in the Glenvista area and when the dassies started appearing, we loved to look at them as they roamed between the rocks and our walls. But soon they became a problem as their numbers increased, creating a large family in our area. They have been attacking our dogs. They moved into our neighbours’ roof a few months ago. He has had to spend a lot of money to get them out.
They have now moved over to our roof and created chaos in our home. They urinate on the ceilings and it runs down the walls. The smell is awful. We have had to spend so much money on trying to capture them. We have been frustrated by the lack of support from the municipality. We can’t seem to find a proper answer about what our course of action should be.
We don’t want the dassies to be hurt or killed but they can no longer stay in our area as they are going to make people and pets sick.We will have to get a company to come and clean the roof, replace ceiling boards and close up the area where they are coming in. I am an animal lover however, I do think people must be aware that these animals are not domesticated and by creating an environment where we feed and care for them might actually increase the destruction that ensues once they take over your property and endanger your animals.
