I am an L2 paraplegic using elbow crutches. I have had my fair share of pathetic service and good service from the Department of Health but on Friday, September 2, I was impressed after I took my 70-year-old mother, who is also a paraplegic, to the Crown Gardens Clinic.
Because she walks with difficulty, I normally go in first to queue for her and only bring her in when I have registered a file for her. But that day I met a lady whom everybody called ‘D’.
She quickly attended to me just as I was walking towards the door. She showed so much care. Don’t get me wrong, the staff at Crown Gardens Clinic is normally friendly, but this was out-of-this-world service, something I have not experienced even in private hospitals.
She registered everything for me and went with me to the vehicle to assist my mother. After everything she assisted her back to the vehicle. I didn’t ask her for assistance; she just did it out of her own compassion. My 70-year-old mother also says she has never experienced such a great service in her entire lifetime. I asked her name afterwards and she said her name was Dona.
Dona, keep it up, South Africa needs more public servants like you.
