Service delivery must be a priority

"I suspect that Glen is trying to play the political parties against one another which I believe councillor Radebe’s action were not aiming to the negativity but to ask relevant officials to clean up their acts."

Mr Burgeon’s article on the Southern COURIER, January 24 can’t go unchallenged.

He claims that councillor Sidney Radebe of ward 124 is trying to initiate the clean-up. Glen might be correct where he’s sitting, but surely if a servant of the people raises a concern due to the pressure from his community (then that’s acceptable) – personally I don’t think he wants to favour himself as an initiator for a clean-up. He’s raising concerns to prove to his constituency that he represents, that all your complaints were reported to the relevant officials of the various departments, but no action resulted. This is what a councillor must do for his tax paying communities.

I suspect that Glen is trying to play the political parties against one another. Councillor Radebe’s actions weren’t aimed to be negative I believe, but to ask relevant officials to clean up their acts and provide service delivery to his ward. Mind you, he’d just received a fresh mandate from his constituency. Irrespective of Glen’s past experience of councillor Radebe, service delivery to all the citizens of our city must be a priority. No work together will succeed, if we want to score political points by pointing fingers.

Mr K Koomar
