KENILWORTH – On Saturday December 7 the launch of Kenilworth Racing’s Summer of Champions with the Avontuur Cape Fillies Guineas and Intercontinental Village will take place.
Kenilworth Racecourse will be transformed into a carnival of cultures, live entertainment for the whole family and top South African racing.
Avontuur Estate, the award-winning winery and thoroughbred stud farm from the Helderberg area between Somerset West and Stellenbosch presents the eighth R1 000 000 Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas.
Over the years the steady growth of the event, has drawn more support from both the racing fraternity and the public and it is now one of the most versatile racing events on the calendar, as well as being the first big day of the Cape’s Summer of Champions.
“With everything from formal, elegant racing to festive fun our Fillies Guineas race day is truly a unique offer and we are excited to expand even further this year,” said Avontuur’s Michael Taberer. “From the beginning the day has had free entrance to all race lovers and their families with children entertainment in the gardens of the race course, and various options in the grandstand.”
The 2013 event offers various experiences, tailor-made to accommodate everyone who’s keen to enjoy a day at the races. Nine nationalities including Italy, Portugal and Thailand will showcase traditional cuisine whilst each of the nationalities nominated charities will benefit from the R100 000 pool which is up for grabs. Crowds will enjoy live entertainment throughout the day in either the beer garden or kid’s carnival.
