Major boost for cricket

CSA has received a major boost for the 2013/14 season.

CRICKET in South Africa has received a major boost for the season securing an increase in prize money for the upcoming 2013/14 Sunfoil Series.

R2 million prize money will be up for grabs in this series after CSA and the Willowton group made it public that the pool of prize money has been increased. The champion will take home R1 million, the highest winner’s cheque ever given to a domestic franchise team across any competition.

Apart from the increase in prize money, players are set to benefit with the player of the series awarded R50 000 and a new R15 000 monthly prize introduced for the player of the month. The award will be known as the Sunfoil Sizzler of the Month Award.

“We are very pleased about the new innovation and this will take our cricket in South Africa further, because this will also boost our development cricket,” said CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat at the announcement on Monday November 18. “This will give our domestic players the opportunity to grow and step up to the national side.”

“Sunfoil has a love for cricket and from humble beginnings they are prepared to increase their sponsorship.”

“As a company we are delighted to be involved in cricket in South Africa,” said Shoaib Moosa, Sales and Marketing Director of the Willowton Group. “We are delighted to be involved in the 30 game series throughout South Africa. Development also lies very near to our hearts and very soon one of these players will be playing for the Proteas.”
