Schools riders to get back in the saddle
2018 SANESA Sedibeng multi-discipline qualifiers takes place at Penbritte Equestrian Centre.
THE first of four 2018 South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) Sedibeng multi-discipline qualifiers takes place at Penbritte Equestrian Centre in Alewynspoort on February 3 and 4.
Equestrianism is a fully recognized schools’ sport and learners may qualify for regional and national schools colours subject to certain criteria being met.
In addition, graded riders in most disciplines are eligible for their respective discipline recognition.
Classes range from lead-rein to experienced horses and ponies.
Primary and high schools are separated but primary school riders may compete on horses instead of ponies if they wish.
Disciplines covered at these competitions include jumping, dressage, prix caprilli (dressage/jumping combination), and showing (working riding/utility, working hunter, performance riding, handy hunter and in-hand utility).
SANESA riders do not need to affiliate with any discipline.
Membership of SANESA is free.
Schools, riders and their horse/pony need to register on the SANESA website.
Many riding establishments offer ponies for their riders to compete with and they too must register the horse or pony along with the riders details on the website.
Go to www.sanesa.co.za for more info on how to register.
In addition to the core disciplines above, various other stand-alone disciplines are also offered.
These shows do not take place on the same days as the core disciplines and may take place at other suitable venues. They include three-phase eventing, stadium eventing, endurance, western mounted games, mounted archery, equitation and extreme obstacle classes.
Entries for the first qualifier have already closed but potential riders and their parents are more than welcome to visit on 3 or 4 February.
Entrance and parking are free. There is a licensed restaurant on the premises, a tack shop and a safe children’s play area.
School leavers and those with special needs riders are also catered for.
Adults may join the supporters’ classes which are run separately.
