Mpumalanga concludes provincial finals phase

KI Thwala Secondary School through to national finals.

KI Thwala Secondary School will represent Mpumalanga in the upcoming COPA Coca-Cola national finals as representatives of their province, after emerging champions of the COPA Coca-Cola Mpumalanga provincial finals played at the Lynnville Stadium on September 8.

After an exciting period of COPA Coca-Cola provincial finals, Mpumalanga was the last stop for the globally acclaimed school’s tournament, as schools across the country gave it their all to earn a place in the highly anticipated COPA Coca-Cola national finals, set to take place in Port Elizabeth September 26 to 29.

Following an exciting and competitive afternoon of school’s football, it was KI Thwala who emerged victorious after finishing top of the round-robin structured competition involving four schools.

KI Thwala kicked off the afternoon with a thrilling 2-2 draw against St Marks High School. Their second match saw them collect maximum points against Mafa Max Secondary School with a 2-0 victory which elevated them to the number one spot in the group.

Dumphries High School, who was KI Thwala’s closest rivals, collected maximum points in both their matches against Mafa Max and KI Thwala, but both their victories were declared null and void after being disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.
