Sports4life canoe marathon a success

The singles event took place on May 18 and the doubles on May 19.

SPORTS4LIFE hosted the K1 (singles) canoe marathon event on May 18, at the Johannesburg Canoe Club’s venue at Wemmer Pan. The event started at 8am.

The event was raced over distances of 6km, 12km, 16km and 21km. On May 19 it was K2 (doubles) race over the same distances.

“We were graced with amazing windless and glassy conditions the whole weekend, which made for great racing,” said Pete Rossouw of Sports4life.

On Saturday, the senior 21km singles was won by Ben Cochran clocking a time of 1.42:10. Kobus Filmalter came second and TC Smit third.

Sports4life hosts regular “Introduction to Canoeing” coaching classes, does schools coaching and canoeing fun days for special events and birthdays. It also hosts corporate team-building events at the Johannesburg Canoe Club’ s venue at Wemmer Pan.

They also host a “Learn to Swim” school for the underprivileged children at the outdoor heated pool at Wemmer Pan.
