Union RFC played Kagiso in the Memorial Shield competition, winning 63-3 on October 16.
Club manager Jason du Toit said the forwards once again laid the platform for good quality rugby to be played and dominated the scrums and lineouts once again from the get-go.
“The first try was scored by the backs after a well-worked scrum from the forwards. Dominating upfront, the forwards scored in total six of the 11 tries on the day – one coming from a driving maul all the way from the halfway line.”
He said the backs, therefore, had the freedom to run and really took it to Kagiso.
“The backs are also coming together and week after week they are almost scoring at will. Some beautiful tries were scored from set moves and running freely all over the park.

“Kagiso never gave up and played their heart out till the final whistle. The junior club also had mixed results against various other junior clubs. The hard work the juniors are putting in is great to see, as these boys will one day become the main members of the club.
“Union RFC will take on Alberton on November 6. We will be working hard in the next few weeks toward the Alberton game as we would like to finish the season on a high and with some silverware in the cabinet,” said du Toit.
